One of the most highly prized of all the gems, emerald is the green variety of the mineral beryl. It was historically believed to bestow on its wearer faithfulness and undying love, and was thought to enable the wearer to forecast events.
Connoisseurs of this gorgeous stone regard the Colombian Emerald, possessing almost a pure spectral green, possibly with a very faint tint of blue, as the world's finest. Others prefer the darker bluish green shade mined in Africa. With the popularity of both of these shades, we set out to produce both varieties.
Our Laboratory-Grown Emerald possesses the bluish green shade. Similar to the Lannyte Company's other lab-grown stones, our Lab-Grown Emerald is chemically, optically, and physically identical to its natural counterpart, though available for a fraction of the cost!
With natural emeralds possessing numerous flaws, cracks, and inclusions, we also sought to produce an affordable imperfect emerald. The Lannyte Natural Emerald Doublet is a very pale natural emerald which has been cut in half (at the girdle) and color enhanced. The end result is a beautiful and affordable Colombian Emerald with all the imperfections present since it is a natural emerald. For this reason, it is one of our most popular gemstones!
Unlike natural oiled emeralds, the color is permanent and constant and despite extensive testing, we have noted no fading or changes in depth of color. In the same way as the oil used in a natural emerald is sensitive to heat, so, too, is the bonding we use to join both emerald pieces. It would be prudent to treat these stones with the same care as a natural emerald. To avoid any potential problems associated with excessive heat, never expose the stone to a temperature greater than 80º C or 176º F.
The Lannyte Natural Emerald Doublet can be cleaned in an ultra-sonic bath or a rhodium bath but, once again, make sure the temperature is not too high.
Since The Lannyte Natural Emerald Doublet is a natural material, with a reputation for being fragile and whose growth was not under our control, we are unable to extend the Lannyte Guarantee to cover this stone.
