Treasured through the ages, rubies have been the symbol of love and passion, and are believed to ensure beauty. Ruby's color ranges from purplish or bluish red to a yellowish red. The finest color is a vivid, almost pure spectral red, as seen in Burmese rubies.
Sapphires also come in a range of colors, depending on the region and the presence of trace amounts of certain elements and chemicals. The most desirable blue shade is the Ceylon (Sri Lanka) sapphire.
Rubies and sapphires are the red and blue varieties of the mineral corundum, a very durable mineral with a Mohs' ranking of 9 (the second hardest material behind diamond, which ranks first with a hardness of 10). As a result, both rubies and sapphires are very wearable and versatile; characteristics making them fine choices for any piece of jewelry.
After much experimentation in the laboratory, the Lannyte Company has managed to create laboratory-grown ruby and sapphire of the finest quality. Our lab-grown rubies and sapphires are chemically, physically and optically identical to their natural counterparts, as both are corundum materials. The only difference is that our stones have been produced in a laboratory by choice rather than a volcano by accident!
Our lab-grown ruby possesses the Burmese color. We also have a range of depth of the color - from lighter to darker. The lighter variety is known as Rose Sapphire or Rose de France. Since we can produce the exact depth of color in this most sought after color, our laboratory-grown rubies continue to be one of our best sellers.
Similarly, we have managed to reproduce the revered Ceylon color in our lab-grown sapphires. They, too, are available in the very light to the very deep color range, allowing the customer to select their personal favorite.
